In today’s world of technology, CNC Machining is standard. In fact, CNC (Computer Numeric Control) was being utilized even before technology as we know it today. The greatest change to CNC Machining in the past couple of decades is that there are now more CAD and CAM programs being used to dictate to machines what and how to perform. Historically CNC machines which have or had encoded commands programmed into them were operated at an interface at the machine itself. Now, many of these machines are run from a computer system.
How CNC Works
That CAD (computer-aided design) or CAM (computer-aided manufacturing) changes most commonly found today is just a fancy way of saying that computers control the machining process from start to finish. The basics of the process begin with a computer program that creates a file with instructions on what to do and then sends that file to the machine which follows those instructions to produce the intended result.
CNC Machining Changed Manufacturing
CNC has changed literally everything in the manufacturing industry since being introduced. Everything from large components such as doors or automobile frames to the smallest parts like those found on a coffee pot is produced using CNC machines. Essentially every type of material available is used in CNC machining, from plastics to metals and beyond. The ability to mass produce and create the most intricate machine parts have saved manufacturers countless dollars and allows every product imaginable to be sold at much lower prices.
CNC Has Changed the World
These are the types of advancements in manufacturing that most don’t think about but that impact everyone. As technology continues to advance, so does the world of manufacturing. Certainly, this is nowhere more evident than it is with CNC machining and design. We may not be aware of it, but we are affected by it. All CNC Machining has done is change the world, and in this case that is a very good thing.
